A short list of recent hurricanes worth remembering.

1. 2005
   Hurricane Katrina

   Cat 3 at landfall in Louisiana. Levee failures flooded 80% of New Orleans. 1,800+ deaths.

2. 2017
   Hurricane Maria

   Cat 4 landfall in Puerto Rico. Devastated the island's power grid for months.

3. 2018
   Hurricane Michael

   Rare Cat 5 landfall on the Florida Panhandle. First Cat 5 to hit US since Andrew (1992).

4. 2022
   Hurricane Ian

   Cat 4 in southwest Florida. Catastrophic storm surge; one of costliest US hurricanes.

5. 2024
   Hurricane Helene

   Cat 4 in Florida's Big Bend, but the story was inland flooding across the Appalachians.
